The Phallus and The Chalice | Alex Blom
My creative practice resides at the intersection of spirituality and identity. Through exploration of Catholic iconography, divine traumas and trysts, and deeply personal color palettes, this current body of work seeks to reconcile religious and childhood trauma by reclaiming art historical compositions and collapsing them with queer cultural references. Color is an integral part of my work. With this collection of pieces, the connotational binaries and historical implications of hues such as blue, pink, and gold are put on full display. The extended symbolic juxtaposition of the phallus and the chalice further confronts the duality between the pure and the perverse, offering a glimpse into my dynamic psyche.
